Covid and Loneliness
Oh wow, this past year sure has been a whirl wind! I don’t know about you guys but I am feeling a little bit like “what is happening”!!! The world seems to be a bit upside down and we have all been dealing with Covid-19 for what seems like an eternity. With the cooler weather here and the holidays fast approaching, I know many of us are not feeling so festive. Many people I have talked to lately are dealing with feeling a bit “down” lately. I am not sure if its Covid and not being able to be social like we normally would, or the colder weather approaching. I do know one thing that we are SOCIAL beings and it is important for everyone’s mental health that we stay connected in whatever SAFE way we all can.
For those of you that know, my father passed away from Alzheimer’s and when COVID-19 first hit and all of the long term care homes were on lockdown, my heart sank. Can you imagine how lonely we feel but how the residents in long term care feel? The one and only thing the residents look forward to is the visits from their families and now that no longer can take place.
I teamed up with a few fellow business owners and we put together some funds and bought TEN IPADS. That way the residents could FaceTime with their loved ones!!!
Guys I cried when I went to deliver them. It was such a small thing that made a difference. I do find that one thing that helps me get out of feeling down is giving back and doing something for someone else. Even if it is just paying for someone’s coffee at the drive thru. Try it, you may find it puts a small smile on your face even just for a minute!
